To meet demand from customers who have asked us to provide a pendant that works outside of the home, we have launched the Herts Bernie Location Service. View the video.
Herts Bernie is a St Bernard rescue dog for the 21st century – a portable pendant and reliable companion who can help in an emergency, wherever a person is. It's the perfect addition (not a replacement) to our community alarm and telecare service, which helps people live independently at home. Now we can offer a solution for when they are out and about too.
How it works
The Herts Bernie pendant is a small device that combines the functions of a mobile phone with a Global Positioning System (GPS) locator.
If you get disorientated or need help while you're away from home, simply press the SOS button on the device to speak to a linked responder (family member of friend) or our operator, who can:
- check that you're OK
- tell you where you are
- give you directions to your destination or a safe location
- contact a relative or friend to come and help you
- call emergency services, if needed.
For legal reasons, this service is only available to people who have the capacity to freely consent to it.
How much does it cost?
The cost of the Herts Bernie service is £4.85 per week (inc. vat). You do not need to be an existing customer of Herts Careline to apply for Herts Bernie – it is a service in its own right and as such there are two separate prices.
The usual Herts Careline community alarm and telecare service is £3.25 per week (+VAT if applicable)
