Telecare can be a valuable support tool for someone living with epilepsy in several ways:
  1. Emergency alert – a pendant alarm or fall detector can be programmed to alert Herts Careline’s control room to quickly alert them when a person is experiencing a seizure, and it allows for rapid assistance.
  2. Fall detection – a pendant can also include fall detection technology which can automatically send an alert to notify caregivers in the home or our control room of the situation.
  3. GPS location pendants can provide the exact location of the person during a seizure, which is especially useful if they are outside or in an unfamiliar place. They would need to be able to press the pendant button, however.
  4. Medication reminders prompts can help individuals living with epilepsy stay on top of their medication plan.
  5. Support around the clock – many epilepsy sensors can monitor overnight to give care givers a chance to sleep more peacefully knowing they’ll be alerted to the situation if needed.

It is important to choose a telecare system that suits the specific needs of the person with epilepsy and to ensure that it is properly set up and maintained for reliable support. Additionally, consulting with a healthcare professional can help determine the most appropriate features and options for the individual's situation.
