The weather will be heating up over the next few months which can bring a new set of challenges. Here is some guidance on remaining comfortable and safe this summer with the rising temperatures.
Keeping your home cool
Although many of us enjoy the hot weather during the summertime, our homes can sometimes become especially hot, and this comes with potential health risks. It’s therefore important that if you or a loved one are more vulnerable to the heat, that you take the necessary steps to keep your home as cool as possible. Actions to reduce the risk of your home overheating include:
- Covering your windows or pulling down their blinds or shades if you have them.
- Turn off lights and out of use electrical equipment
- Open windows when the air is cooler outside
- Cook at cooler times of the day
If you’re worried about keeping your home cool over the summer, talk to a social or health care professional about getting a referral for additional telecare with us. We offer ambient temperature monitors upon professional referral. This device links to your alarm unit and will raise your alarm if it detects abnormal temperatures, or a sudden rise or fall in temperature. This will allow us to help you monitor the temperature in your home over the summer, advising you when action needs to be taken to cool your home.
